Standard Pocket Dictionary (c.1930) — Author: Unknown | Publisher: Unknown | ISBN: None | Condition: Good
Before Google, before autocorrect, before your phone smugly told you how to spell “accommodate,” there was this trusty little brick: the Standard Pocket Dictionary. With a whopping 25,000 words, it was the original portable word-hoard, perfect for the jacket pocket of a dapper 1930s gent or the handbag of someone who really cared about spelling “phthisis” correctly. This copy, brought to you by Crappy Old Books, has clearly seen some decades of word-wrangling, but it’s still holding together in “Good” condition (which means the words are all there, even if the cover looks like it’s been through a spelling bee riot). A charming relic from the days when “standard” meant red cloth binding and a faint smell of old libraries.
Old condition with a couple of tiny sections missing from last two pages and heavily creased and aged, but in otherwise very good condition. I estimate 1930s but it could be anything from 1870 to 1950?
Complete with 230 engravings.
